Kolab

The Groupware Kolab facilitates a shared administration of appointments, contacts and tasks and enables a comfortable and efficient exchange of email.

A specific strength is the possibility for a mixed environment with clients running both Microsoft Outlook and KDE Kontact on GNU/Linux, providing a path for smooth migration. Since version 2.2.0 a web client (based on Horde) rounds off the solution.

Scenarios making use of the native clients do not require permanent network connectivity. As soon as the user connects to the network all data is being synchronised with the server.

Kolab Server is based on standard and well tested components and protocols (such as OpenLDAP, Postfix, Cyrus IMAP, Apache, OpenSSL) which allow for an extraordinary scalability of the solution.

Kolab's integrated email encryption Egypt-2 is recommended by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) of Germany for end-to-end encryption in public administration according to the „Sphinx” study which tested different encryption solutions for its interoperability and vendor independence.

The full compatibility of the Outlook-Plugin Toltec Connector™ with Kolab-2 was ensured by close cooperation with Radley Network Technologies CC to develop a common XML storage format for Outlook and Kontact.

Kolab allows differential data backup with restoration of individual objects. The concept of Kolab provides both high scalability and performance. Directory service, virus scanner and other components are already integrated.

Even if only deployed as a pure email server Kolab can serve all common email programs including a flexible backup and recovery mechanism and simplifies the administration of users and server components through its web interface.
